PM Vishwakarma
PM Vishwakarma provides end-to-end support to artisans and craftspeople in 18 traditional trades through recognition, skill training, toolkit assistance, collateral-free enterprise development loans up to ₹3 lakh, concessional 5% interest, digital transaction incentives and marketing support.
1. Scheme Objectives & Overview
The scheme was launched on 17 September 2023 and was originally approved for 5 years from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28. The 2026-27 Union Budget provides ₹3,860.89 crore for PM Vishwakarma.
The scheme covers 18 traditional trades and is intended to provide end-to-end support so that artisans can improve skills, access modern tools, obtain affordable credit and connect with larger markets.
Recognition:
• Eligible artisans receive a PM Vishwakarma Certificate and PM Vishwakarma ID Card after successful registration and verification.
• Recognition formally identifies the artisan as a Vishwakarma and enables access to scheme benefits.
Skill training:
• Skill verification is followed by 5-7 days of Basic Training.
• Interested beneficiaries can undertake 15 days or more of Advanced Training.
• Training participants receive a ₹500 per day stipend.
• An eligible ₹1,000 transport allowance is also provided under the scheme's training support.
Toolkit incentive:
• Beneficiaries can receive a toolkit incentive of up to ₹15,000 through an e-voucher.
• The toolkit support is intended to help artisans obtain modern and appropriate tools for improving productivity and product quality.
Credit support:
• PM Vishwakarma provides collateral-free Enterprise Development Loans up to ₹3 lakh in two tranches.
• The First Tranche is ₹1 lakh with a repayment tenure of 18 months.
• The Second Tranche is ₹2 lakh with a repayment tenure of 30 months.
• The beneficiary interest rate is fixed at 5% per annum.
• Government of India provides interest subvention of up to 8%.
• Credit guarantee fees are borne by the Government of India.
The second loan tranche is linked to the applicable scheme conditions and successful progression of the beneficiary within the scheme.
Digital transaction incentive:
• Beneficiaries receive ₹1 per eligible digital transaction.
• The incentive is available for up to 100 eligible transactions per month for eligible digital pay-out or receipt transactions.
Marketing support:
• The National Committee for Marketing provides services such as Quality Certification.
• Support also includes Branding and Promotion.
• Beneficiaries can receive e-commerce linkage, including onboarding opportunities on platforms such as GeM.
• Other assistance includes trade fair participation, advertising, publicity and market linkage activities.
• The objective is to help artisans improve product visibility and connect with domestic and larger value chains.

Eligibility:
• The applicant must be an artisan or craftsperson working with hands and tools.
• The applicant must be engaged in the trade on a self-employment basis in the unorganized sector.
• The applicant must be engaged in one of the 18 specified traditional trades covered by PM Vishwakarma.
• The applicant must be at least 18 years of age on the date of registration.
• There is no maximum age limit under the scheme.
• The applicant must be engaged in the concerned trade on the date of registration.
• The applicant should not have availed credit support under specified similar Central or State Government schemes for self-employment or business development during the previous 5 years.
• Only one member of a family can register and receive benefits under PM Vishwakarma.
• A Government employee and members of the Government employee's family are not eligible.
The Ministry FAQ also identifies previous credit support, family registration and Government service as common reasons an otherwise eligible artisan may not be able to register.
Registration and application process:
• Beneficiaries can register through the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC).
• Registration under PM Vishwakarma is free of charge.
• The applicant can take assistance from a CSC Village Level Entrepreneur (VLE) or enumerator.
• During registration, Aadhaar-based authentication and the registered mobile number are used for verification.
• The applicant must complete biometric verification at the CSC during the application process.
• The online application form requires the applicable mandatory information.
• After submission, the applicant should note the Application Number for future reference.
Three-stage verification:
• Stage 1: Verification at Gram Panchayat or Urban Local Body level.
• Stage 2: Vetting and recommendation by the District Implementation Committee.
• Stage 3: Final approval by the Screening Committee.
• After successful verification and approval, the artisan receives formal PM Vishwakarma registration, certificate and ID card.
Documents and information required:
• Aadhaar Number.

• If the beneficiary does not have a ration card, Aadhaar cards of all family members are required.
• If the beneficiary does not have a bank account, the account must first be opened with assistance through the CSC.
The Ministry FAQ states that applicants generally do not need to upload documents directly on the PM Vishwakarma portal. The required information is provided during the CSC-assisted application and verification process.
Current implementation status:
As of 31 July 2026, the MSME dashboard reported around 30 lakh PM Vishwakarma registrations, with 2,695,695 beneficiaries completing skill verification, 2,429,772 completing basic training, and ₹5,235.8 crore of loans approved for 610,560 beneficiaries. These figures are implementation statistics and do not change the individual benefit ceilings under the scheme.

2. Eligibility Criteria & Beneficiary Qualifications

Ration card is mandatory for registration. If unavailable, Aadhaar cards of all family members are required.

4. Standard Application & Approval Process
DPR Formulation & Supplier Quotations
Prepare a Detailed Project Report itemizing machinery costs, power load sanction, and working capital needs from GST-registered suppliers.
Online Portal Registration & Upload
Register on the designated official nodal portal (e.g. JanSamarth.in or KVIC online) with Aadhaar, PAN, Udyam, and select your preferred bank branch.
DTFC Review & Bank Credit Appraisal
District Task Force Committee (DTFC) verifies eligibility and forwards the proposal to the bank branch for credit assessment and sanction letter issuance.
Disbursement & 3-Year TDR Subsidy Lock-In
Upon borrower margin deposit (5% - 15%), the bank disburses credit. The subsidy is parked in an interest-free 3-year TDR and credited against principal upon audit.
